After Europe left conflicts occurred between Djibouti and Afar and Somali Speaking groups. There is also conflicts with new groups settling.

After achieving independence in 1977 they elected their first president which was, Hassan Gouled Aptidon. He had a 5 year term and then was re elected.

It has had many struggles some being that 50% of the countries people are unemployed. Many refugees have escaped to their country from Ethiopia due to the civil wars as well. A lot of there land is unusable and overall they are underdeveloped as a country.

As a whole Djibouti's economy is undeveloped however, their major exports revolve around shipping and refueling industries. Their natural resources are very limited.
